- 25.03.2011
Renewable energy in the Balkans continues to grow with, Spain's Iberdrola Renovables beginning work on the 80MW Mihai Viteazu wind farm in Romania, reports Romania Insider.
This will be the first part of a wind farm located in the Dobrogea region, in the southeast of the country, which will entail 50 wind parks with a combined capacity of up to 1,5000MW that is set to become the world's largest such project.
Iberdrola intends to build these facilities gradually between 2011 and 2017.
The output generated by the wind complex will be enough power for around one million Romania households.
COB2B emissions will be curbed by about 2.6m tonnes, says the company.
Iberdrola has inked an off-take agreement with the Romanian network operator Transelectrica, to connect the planned 1,500 MW to the national grid, including the agreement for the grid connection of the first phase, encompassing 600 MW. This agreement covers the largest volume of grid-connected wind power in Europe to date, according to the company.
Iberdrola works with Eolica Dobrogea Srl, owned by the Swiss engineering group NEK Umwelttechnik AG and the Romanian companies C-Tech Srl and Rokura Srl.
