Wind Park Launched in Greece

As Greece develops a new renewable energy infrastructure, projects are coming at a more rapid pace. The most recent RES project to become operational in Greece is the Aeolic (Wind) Park in Alogorahi in the prefecture of Magnisia, Thessaly Region.
Analysts point out that Greece has the best profiles for wind energy in all of Europe and that wind can become a significant contributor to energy output. The aeolic park in Alogorahi is the highest park in Greece, at an altitude of almost 1.650 meters. It has a power of 17MW and there are 20 wind generators, 850kW each. Energy production is estimated at 38.180 MWh annually, which is equivalent to the energy consumed by approximately 13.000 households. Its operation will prevent the mission of 38.000 tons of carbon monoxide and other pollutants, resulting in a significant contribution in the efforts to deal with the greenhouse effect. The project was financed by the 3rd Community Support Framework through the Competitiveness Business Plan of the Ministry of Development.

The inaugural ceremony of the aeolic park in Alogorahi took place on Saturday September 16, 2006 with the presence of the Minister of Development Dimitris Sioufas, who unveiled the commemorative plaque and started the wind generators.
